Principal Investigator: Dr. Jesus Egido

 

Brief description:

Professor Egido works as a clinician and researcher at the recent institute Fundacion Jimenez Diaz , and affiliated hospital to the Autonoma University , where he teaches students of Medicine and Biology.
Instituto de Investigaciones Sanitarias- Fundacion Jimenez Diaz is public institution dedicated to the national public health service. The Hospital has around 800 beds and has one of the largest research centers linked to a hospital in Spain. All major areas of research are approached in the center. At the Professor Egido’s Lab work more than 30 persons including staff members , posdoctoral and variable number of predoctorals and technicians. The Biobank is located in a appropriate situation in our institution.

 

Main task attributed:

  • Lead coordinator of WP04 Biobank
  • He is the author of more than 450 papers , 75 of them on biomarkers and 30 on diabetes . The group has 3 patents on biomarkers in cardiovascular diseases. One of his interest of research is the vascular complications of diabetes.
  • His group is well known for the application of the novel proteomics techniques to the identification of novel cardiovascular biomarkers.
  • His major task will be to coordinate all central analysis laboratories to study a number of well-established biomarkers on inflammation, endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The group will also accomplish the search and identification of novel biomarkers by proteomic and metabolomic techniques. All the obtain information on biomarkers will be correlated with the clinical imaging and other data gatherer in the whole proposal.
  • Moreover, Professor Egido together with Federico Rojo MD, PhD, the scientific Director of the FJD biobank will be in charge of all matters related to the collection handling and storage of the human biological materials. Ignacio Gadea MD,PhD is the Chief of central laboratory.
