Brief description: 

The University's roots in medical studies go back to the 1920s. Till 2010 it had name Kaunas Medical University, since 2010 - the LUHS was established here to accommodate a merger between Kaunas University of Medicine and the Veterinary Academy. The University is the largest institution providing university degrees, training and research in biomedical sciences in Lithuania. The university community is made up of more than 1,000 academic staff members and 6,200 students. Subject Areas: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceuticals, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine/science. There are four research institutes: Institute of Endocrinology, Institute of Cardiology, Institute of Neuroscience, Institute of Psychophysiology and rehabilitation. It uses also two hospitals one of which - the Kaunas University Hospital. Kaunas University hospital is one of the largest in Europe and the biggest medical institution in Lithuania.

 

Main tasks attributed:

The mission of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences is the education and training of health professionals in international standards, modern research in health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and the provision of the highest quality of specialized health care to the patients. In this project we will be participating in the WP2:

  • Recruitment of patients for the study
  • Treatment and follow up of patient according to research design during 5 years-Collection of data and blood samples for each patient included in study and sending all of data to central lab and coordination centre.
