Brief Description:

The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) was established 1 January 2009, through the merger of the National Public Health Institute (KTL) and the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health (STAKES). The institute operates under the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and has a total staff of about 1200 person-years in four divisions, 14 departments and 65 units. Of the budget 68% comes from the State Budget, 27% from outside funding sources (EU e.g.) and 5% from chargeable services. THL promotes wellbeing and health, prevents diseases and social problems and develops social and health services. THL is active in research, development, evaluation and follow-up, performs official tasks, and engages in extensive international co- operation. THL is the statutory statistical authority in health and welfare in Finland and maintains a strong knowledge base within its field. THL is also responsible for the application of this knowledge.


Main tasks attributed:


  • Lead coordinator of WP03 Lifestyle
  • Lifestyle intervention design, counselling, data management, platform for diets design.
  • Monitoring participants for their nutritionists, doctor or relatives.
  • Assessment and analysis.
